Delight In The Fear Of God

Devotion 1 - Delight in the Fear of God The word “fear” is often perceived negatively and associated with negative emotions. We tend to think of fear as a bad thing, a s something to be avoided. We don’t want to live in fear. Thus, when it comes to the “fear of the Lord”, we tend to think of it in negative terms as well. Biblical fear of the Lord, however, is a wonderful, amazing, positive, desirable blessing that God gives us to produce joy and gladness in our lives and to motivate us to obey and serve Him with great pleasure. H ow does fearing God lead to joy?   And h ow can we delight in the fear of the Lord rather than to treat it as an obligated obedience? We hope that through these devotions, you will discover that the fear of the Lord is an important key to a joyful, fulfilling, and genuine intimacy with God. As we walk in a healthy fear of the Lord, it will help us to develop a deeper, more intimate relationship with God – one that is characterized by joy. Learnin

Guidance

Devotion 2 - Guidance The word of God leaves us in no doubt that we are created through Him and for Him and His glory alone. Col.1:16 - “All things were created through Him and for Him” (Col 1:16). Romans 11:36  – “ For of Him and through Him and to Him  are  all things, to whom  be glory forever. Amen.”   We exist because of God, and we are here only for the purposes of God. There is therefore not one person who is without a purpose in God. Eph.2:10 - “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” While no one has been saved by virtue of good works, the born-again believer is expected to perform good works. In attempting to identify our individual calling and destiny, we cannot neglect to ask ourselves: What kind of good works is Paul referring to? The `good works’ spoken of by Paul are described as the good works that God has prepared beforehand--even before we came into exist

Abundant Life

Devotion 3 - Abundant Life   Jn.10:10 - " The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have  it  more abundantly.”   Many Christians are aware that Jesus came to give us abundant life. But as mentioned before, many gospel privileges or promises are not automatic to mere believers but rather to those who uphold the fear of the Lord in their lives.   Many assume that the promises and blessing of God come with salvation as a package, however, is not true. In fact, most of the promises of God come with conditions.   Let’s look at the scriptures below: Psalm 33:16-18  – “ No king  is  saved by the multitude of an army; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength.   A horse  is  a vain hope for safety; neither shall it deliver  any  by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the  Lord   is  on those who fear Him , on those who hope in His mercy”   The contrast here is not between the use

Friendship With Jesus

Devotion 4 - Friendship with Jesus   Many of us are familiar with the much-loved hymn, “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”, written by Joseph Scriven (1820-1886). But not many know the pain, heartache and loneliness he had gone through before he wrote this hymn. His bride-to-be drowned the evening before their wedding, and later in his life, a second fiancĂ©e died. Through all these, Christ’s friendship sustained him.   The Bible refers to both Abraham (2Chro.20:7; Isa.41:8; Jas.2:23) and Moses (Exo.33:11) as friends of God. The question we need to consider and ask ourselves is, “Would Jesus call me His friend?” Does friendship with Jesus come automatically through our salvation? What Does It Mean To Be Friends With Jesus?   Jn.15:14-15 – “ You are my friends if you do whatever I command you .   No longer do I call you servants, for a servant, does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known

Confidence In Our Prayers

Devotion 5 - Confidence in our Prayers Prayer is one of the most important things a Christian can do. It is the vehicle for daily dialogue with the One who created us. It is so important that it was mentioned over 250 times in the Scriptures and it should be taken very seriously.   Ps.145:17-18  – “ The  Lord   is  righteous in all his ways, gracious in all his works. The  Lord   is  near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon him in truth.” Yet many people feel that their prayers are not heard by God. They pray and pray but it seems that God is not listening and thus, not answering their prayers.   However, the Bible clearly tells us that God is near to those who call upon Him in truth. Hence, He hears us if we are sincere in our prayers. However, if we still live a sinful lifestyle and are not ready to obey Him, or if we still want to walk in our own ways and refuse to heed His teachings, then our prayers will probably not be heard by God. Isa.59:1-3  –

Blessing To Our Next Generation

Devotion 6 - Blessing to our Next Generation Parenting is difficult and complex especially in this competitive modern society where our moral and ethical values are constantly being challenged. With ungodly influences and societal pressures around us, saying parenting is “difficult” is an understatement. It takes great diligence to go against the flow of the anti-family headwind in society, and going with the flow is likely fatal! History clearly affirms that family is the foundation of society and the building block of every nation. It is healthy family units that give stability to society. If we do not build better homes, we will have to build more prisons and half-way houses. If we do not teach our children, society will; and we, together with our children, will have to live with the outcome. And as children of God, we are called to be stewards of all that He has put under our care and we believe that parenting is one of the higher, if not, the highest form of call

Imputed Holiness vs Practical Holiness

Devotion 7 – Imputed Holiness vs Practical Holiness   Isa.6:1-3 – “ In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His  robe  filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “ Holy, holy, holy  is  the  Lord  of hosts; the whole earth  is  full of His glory!” Rev.4:8  – “ The  four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “ Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” The Hebrew language often uses repetition to indicate emphasis just like we do by italics, bold or underlining.   Jesus frequently says, “Truly, truly…” to give his emphasis on certain truth He wants to communicate. Thus, by employing this threefold repetition for his holiness, God is exalting His holiness to t
